History

Haltwhistle Film Project (HFP) was set up in 1999 to provide activities and training opportunities for young people in Haltwhistle. Despite the fact that the Film Project operated from a single room, it was extremely productive in its early days running several workshops for young people in Haltwhistle as well as establishing itself as a producer of commissioned videos, something which the Film Project continues to do.

A move to larger premises in the Church Hall and a slew of advertising from Haltwhistle Film Week in 2001 raised the Film Project’s profile considerably. By now, HFP were running regular Open Night sessions through the week, a number of seasonal/holiday workshops in and around Haltwhistle and working with a larger number of groups on more diverse projects.

Another move, this time to our very own building on Main Street, in 2002 saw the next chapter in HFP’s development. By December ’02, HFP established itself as a Limited Company with an impressive board of directors made up of local business/media/arts people. Now a much stronger organisation, HFP’s work continues much further afield now and we have a larger number of skilled practitioners working with us on a sessional basis.
